Today was a beautiful warm and windless day in the Karri. Had to struggle with this painting as I used matboard roughly brushed with primer - far too coarse for a painting this size so struggled to keep details loose. In the end the only way I could get it to work was to remove the texture entirely and rely on colour and value alone to convey the trunks of these beautiful trees. While I wasn’t entirely happy with the constant struggle, I think the painting does convey the softness of the light filtering down through the trees and the peacefulness of the scene.
